An excavator is one of the staple pieces of equipment in any construction site. These machines are common all throughout South Africa on numerous sites. The Excavator is a very versatile piece of machinery and very few jobs can be completed without the help of this iconic construction beast. The General appearance of the excavator is the long arm with a large back scoop that it use mainly for digging and unearthing. Luckily the excavator is built with variety in mind. The end of the of the excavator is detachable and can facilitate a variety of different heads for the job at hand.
Augur Driver
The Augur Driver Attachment is a large spiral drill piece with a very wide and flat cutting edge. Augurs are primarily used to drill holes in wood and into the ground. The shape of an Augur head acts both as a drill and as a conveyor, as the dirt gets loosened and transported upwards via the helix. The Primary goal of an Augur is to create holes in the ground so that pipes, supports and beams can be inserted and laid in the holes.
Magnet
The Magnet Attachment I a large cylindrical attachment at the end of the excavator arm that is connected to a larger box. The Magnet is mainly used in clean-up of demolition sites as well as clean-up before construction begins. These powerful electro magnets are capable of tremendous magnetic power allowing the excavator to easily pick up many iron based objects like rebar.
Compactor
The Compactor attachment is a large flat reinforced piece of metal linked to a motor. The goal of the Compactor Attachment is to level and flatten rough terrain and will often be seen in road construction flattening areas where the road has been fixed, if a roller isn’t available. The motor allows the metal plate to intensely thrust, providing a lot of force to an area.
Shears
The Shears Attachment is a large, claw like attachment, that has one stationary blade with another that can open and close. The Shear Attachment is generally used in demolition and in junkyards as these steel jaws are capable of severing piping, bars, concrete and more. The Shears are often used to cut things smaller so transport is easier.
Breaker
The Breaker Attachment is a large jackhammer like machine that ranges in power depending on the size of the excavator. The Breakers are an integral part of demolition as their powerful jackhammers are capable of destroying many concrete structures and objects. They are often used in road construction to destroy the tar. By breaking large objects down, they become much easier to transport and get rid of. The tip of a Breaker comes in two different shapes , a sharp needle like tip that can easily pierce and crack structures, and a flat tip that is used for heavy impacts to weaken large structures or to shake off excess pieces from existing structures for safe removal.
